Dear readers,

You’ll no doubt already have last year’s final issue – that is, issue 6 of DR magazine – at home, but as is our tradition, we’re bringing you a little taster of its contents. We launched this issue with the article ‘My First War Artefacts’ by M. Štolby’s earlier post is followed by a read-through of the find of a ‘Sudeten’ ‘Fairy-tale glass’ by our colleague Adič. Under the title ‘The Bloody Military Clashes at Chlumec in 1813’, our colleague Kacza will give you an insight into the ‘turbulent’ times in northern Bohemia, whilst our colleague Luděk Schmidtmayer will describe a successful search at his sites in the article ‘The Secret of My Uncle from the Borderlands’. In issue six, we have also launched the series ‘Treasures of the Balkans’, written by our colleague Josef Procházka; the first instalment is entitled ‘A Coin Hoard’. In the article ‘Sewer Manhole Covers Are the Faces of the City’, we publish an interview we conducted with Stefan Bottoni, the owner and director of the sewer manhole cover museum, during a holiday visit to Italy. ‘Carská Štika’ – this is the title of Acci’s fascinating account of the fate of a Russian mini-submarine on the Danube, and as always, it is accompanied by unique photographs. Another ‘tottenkopfring’ – that’s the title of the next post, which requires no further comment – this time, our colleague Dlouhán has come up with a unique find. In an interview with Jan Sedlák, chairman of the Association of Lost History Seekers, you will read, amongst other things, about specific collaboration with archaeologists. ‘How to Clear a Forest’ is the title a colleague of mine, Džingis, gave to his article about a surprise in the woods. In this instalment of the advice column, we’ll be looking at a Montenegro revolver cartridge and some more difficult-to-identify finds from the War of 1866. The icing on the cake is the short story Lomikare, to the Year and the Day, penned by our favourite author, V. Moravce. The final issue of the 2010 volume naturally concludes with information on the third edition of the XP G-Maxx II metal detector competition.

Adam Krejčík, editor-in-chief, and Miroslav UC Kratochvíl, publisher, wish you an enjoyable read.
