Historical introduction: prices, events and dates refer to the original publication.

Dear readers, I am pleased to inform you that the latest issue of Detektor revue has already been delivered to your homes or usual collection points. Even before the magazine reaches you, I’d like to offer a little taster of its contents. We have launched the third issue with a new section, ‘Photo of the Month’, which could, however, also be conceived as ‘Find of the Month’, ‘Event of the Month’ or ‘Personality of the Month’ – depending entirely on the specific content of an interesting photograph accompanied by a short caption. War enthusiasts and others alike will certainly enjoy the extensive article by our colleague Luděk Schmidtmayer, which traces the life story of a soldier based on brief notes that the soldier carved into his mess tin during the war and whilst in captivity. We trust that, like us, you will appreciate the painstaking work the author of the article has put into deciphering the inscriptions. Below is an interview with our leading numismatist, J. Militký, who has succeeded in debunking one of the myths of Czech numismatics – and as if that weren’t enough of an ancient tale – you are surely already looking forward to the next instalment of the series Marobud’s Empire, set in Boiohaem, where its author, researcher and journalist Josef Procházka, will take us on a quest to unravel one of the key mysteries of our history. In our regular survey, you’ll find out what your fellow treasure hunters wear when they go out searching and why; and following this mix of opinions, our colleague IceShadow will take you through one of his successful treasure-hunting expeditions in the article ‘When You Go Coin Hunting’. In the article ‘The End of the War in Jaroměřice’, you can read a unique eyewitness account recorded by our colleague Konopek. But that is by no means all, because in addition to regular features such as ‘Listárna’, ‘Advice Corner’ and ‘Snippets’, you can enjoy a superbly written feature on the First World War flying ace Manfred von Richthofen, penned by the acclaimed author Jan Diamond Dvořák, or a study by the researcher and military technology historian Jan Škarka, this time on the 21 cm mortar model 18. The trio also includes a competition entry from a treasure hunter nicknamed ‘Vrbka’, who used old chronicles to describe the fate of a village that no longer exists. And finally, as the proverbial icing on the cake, you can enjoy a short story by the writer and metal-detectorist Václav Moravec, this time with the promising title ‘On the Trail of the Swedes (or the Hussites?) with a Metal Detector’.

Adam Krejčík, Editor-in-Chief; Zdeněk Procházka, Managing Editor; and Miroslav UC Kratochvíl, Publisher, wish you an undisturbed read.
