Dear readers, the fifth issue of Detektor revue is now out, so allow me to give you a little taster. We kicked off the fifth issue with an article by J. D. Dvořák’s article, aptly titled ‘The Golden Season’, discusses successful finds of the yellow metal – a phenomenon that is not all that common amongst treasure hunters. (You can also read a charming article by the same author in this issue about searching for fire brigade artefacts.) A unique discovery of a bronze hoard, which rewrote the history of the region, is described by the honest finder, M. Sládek, and there is also an interview with the archaeologist Mgr. A ‘Blažek’, which explains the significance and circumstances of the hoard’s concealment. Acci’s remarkable collection of old photographs has once again borne fruit; this time, the author focuses on flamethrowers in the Austro-Hungarian army. Numismatists will also find something to their liking, both in the article ‘Stories of Coins’, prepared for us by the auction portal nume.cz, and in the account of the hoard of silver coins and a seal from Čejetice. If you’re following the perilous journeys of the search for so-called As for the Štěchovice treasure, don’t miss our colleague Peyman’s ingenious unravelling of this mystery. (Among other things, this also marks the debut of illustrator Vojtěch Přibyl, who has accompanied the text with his drawings.) You can read about how treasure hunting sometimes leads to interesting encounters in the article by our colleague Lišák. The magazine also features an in-depth study by Jan Škarka, a researcher specialising in historical military technology, as well as the eagerly awaited continuation of Josef Procházka’s investigation into a key mystery of Czech history – the location of Marobud’s residence. Proof that interest in metal detecting also extends to women is provided by a contribution from our colleague Vrbka, who describes her first find.
Adam Krejčík, Editor-in-Chief, and Miroslav UC Kratochvíl, Publisher, wish you a peaceful and inspiring read.
