By now, all subscribers should have had the latest issue of Detektor revue at home for a good few days. For those who buy the magazine individually, here is a small preview of the contents of issue No. 2/09. Right at the start, you can read a treasure hunter’s report on an expedition into the landscape of retreat routes and a frozen past. Many treasure hunters have already discovered a flint striker beneath the coil of their detector, most commonly in the shape of a dog. That is why we were delighted to include in this issue a research article by our colleague Kacur, which attempts to find some answers regarding these fascinating tools used by our ancestors. You can read about how archaeologists certainly do not have it easy in Kamil Smíšek’s article. In an interview with researcher Filip Vojtášek, we will be discussing treasure hunters in our country towards the end of the war. The likeable duo of Myšák and Veverka shared their insights on how to combine the profession of a long-distance lorry driver with metal-detecting. We are launching a series on the wars of the legendary commander – small in stature but great in deeds – for those interested in the Napoleonic era, by Dlouhán and P. Vágner. Researcher Jan Škarka has prepared an interesting and detailed study on the 7.5 cm Mountain Cannon Model 15 for anyone interested in military technology. For numismatists, we have prepared the first instalment of a series on coins, specifically Austrian coins minted towards the end of the monarchy. We haven’t forgotten Lišák either, whose restoration work is sometimes nothing short of incredible – this time, Lišák has turned his attention to a 1934 NSU motorbike. Our colleague Mintaur has sent us an original short story about the blurring of time whilst searching on an ancient battlefield, complete with original illustrations. We hope you’ll enjoy it as much as we do. Acci will introduce you to the rather peculiar phenomenon of children’s uniforms through words and, in particular, pictures. Most of you have no doubt seen somewhere (though a few lucky ones found it under a spool) a beautiful, large oval badge bearing the inscription ‘Přísežná stráž’. You can read about the various types of badges, the conditions for wearing them and the criteria for awarding them in an authoritative article by our colleague Václav Kaděra. If you have a little time left over for reading during the summer treasure-hunting season, we trust that the new issue of Detektor revue will capture your interest and that there will be something for everyone.
Editor-in-chief Adam Krejčík (Salm) and publisher Miroslav Kratochvíl (UC) wish you a summer full of rich finds.
