Historical introduction: prices, events and dates refer to the original publication.

On 18 August 2008, the next issue of Detektor revue was published. In addition to our established sections, we are introducing several new features, such as a detailed study of the 8cm light cannon model 17 by researcher Jan Škarka, whose highly valuable work in the field of military historical technology has worthily continued the standard set in DR by Daniel P. Minár. This is followed by a report on a truly successful underwater search in Bermuda. A faleristic treatise on the Czechoslovak Military Order of the White Lion. Danny Boy opened the proceedings with a vivid account of the heroic death of the recipient of this order, in memoriam, the pilot Alois Vašátek. In the magazine’s numismatic section, Aleš Lojda will introduce you to some unusual forms of currency. Our colleague Dutmann will share his treasure-hunting experiences with you, as well as photographs of some of his finds. Our foreign correspondent, Ondřej Hindl, has managed to secure an exclusive interview with Robyn Gallant, spokesperson for the Maritime Museum in San Diego, and US Navy Captain Don Matthievicz. Captain Matthievicz is a Cold War veteran who spent 18 years on submarines and guided his colleague Hindl through the bowels of a Soviet Foxtrot-class submarine. Further on in the magazine, we look back at the successful Radvanec 2008 treasure hunt, and then Lišák will show you, in pictures and words, the restoration of a denazified Luftschutz buckle. In the magazine, you can also read an in-depth review of the Fischer CZ21 metal detector and learn about the new S-series search coils. E. F. butterfly – a butterfly. The regular features also include ‘Pyrotechnic Primer A’. Gibiše, a short story by D. H. Kožlík and the cartoon humour of Arnošt Bechr. As part of his competition entry, treasure hunter Falko will share his discovery of ‘zmrzlíky’ with you in the post ‘Zmrzlíková sobota’, and finally I would like to draw your attention to a compelling story from the end of the war, which the author Jaroslav Jurčák experienced first-hand.

Adam Krejčík wishes you undisturbed reading and searching
